Housing Needs Survey – What You Told Us

Earlier this year we asked residents to take part in an independent Housing Needs Survey to help us understand what types of homes Eversley may need in the future.

The survey was undertaken by Action Hampshire on behalf of Eversley Parish Council and forms an important part of the evidence being gathered for our emerging Neighbourhood Plan. Eversley HNS Summary Report 2026.

We received responses from 148 households, providing valuable information about current and future housing needs within our community.

The report shows residents were almost evenly divided on supporting development in principle—49.7% yes and 50.3% no, as shown in the infographic on page 3of the summary report—but there was broader agreement about the importance of development being proportionate, locally focused and accompanied by appropriate infrastructure.

The results show that housing need in Eversley comes particularly from younger people looking for their first independent home and older residents who would like to downsize while remaining within the parish. Demand is strongest for smaller homes, with 90% of the households identified as needing to move requiring three bedrooms or fewer. Eversley HNS Summary Report 2026

The survey also identified a significant need for affordable housing. When the survey findings are considered alongside Hart District Council's Housing Register, the report identifies a combined need for 60 households requiring rented affordable housing. Eversley HNS Summary Report 2026

What does this mean for Eversley?

The report does not propose a particular development or determine how many new homes should be built. Instead, it provides evidence about the type, size and tenure of housing that local people need.

Action Hampshire recommends that future housing provision should focus particularly on one, two and three-bedroom homes, including opportunities for younger households, people wishing to downsize, accessible accommodation and affordable housing. The report also recognises residents' concerns about traffic, drainage, public transport and local services and recommends that any future development should be proportionate to the scale and character of Eversley and supported by appropriate infrastructure. Helping to shape our Neighbourhood Plan

These findings give us an important piece of evidence as we develop the housing policies within the Eversley Neighbourhood Plan.

They will help us move the conversation beyond simply “Do we need more housing?” towards a more useful question:

“What housing does Eversley actually need, and how can those needs be met while protecting the character of our parish?”
